Successes: Mark Karaczun and Adam Devany

In October 2008, a Panel consisting of Professor Sam Leinster, Dean of the School of Medicine, Health Policy and Practice, and Peter Earl, of The Peter Earl Foundation, recommended to the Foundation that the 2008 Electives Awards be granted to Mark Karaczun and Adam Devany.  These awards were presented to Mark and Adam at the MED Electives Evening held on 27th October at UEA by Peter Earl, who was also able to congratulate Inna Vardi and Jane Stills who were Highly Commended, and Helen Lines and Anna Croxford who were Commended. Mark and Adam each received a cheque for £2,000 from the Foundation in acknowledgement of their achievements.

Peter Earl commented on the inaugural grant of the Elective Awards; "The standard of work achieved by all the students undertaking the electives during the summer of 2008 was extremely high, and I was delighted to see the effort that everyone had put into the opportunity that the Electives period represents.  However these six students had all put particular emphasis on producing elective proposals that were especially well researched and constructed, with very clear objectives of what they wanted to achieve, that either significantly enhanced the learning they are receiving on the excellent MB/BS course, or supported their future career decisions or areas of particular interest.  In all cases it was clear that these students had taken the time and effort to ensure that they got the most that they possibly could out of the Electives experience."
