Elective Awards

Two Awards will be awarded annually in the School of Medicine, Health Policy and Practice to encourage and recognise meritorious performance by undergraduate medical students upon completion of their elective period.

The value of each Award shall be £2,000.

The Awards shall be made on the recommendation of an Award Panel comprising the Head of the Medical School, the Dean of the Faculty of Health and a representative of the Peter Earl Foundation.  A long-list of candidates will be selected by the Award Panel on the basis of the feasibility and quality of elective proposals.  Long-listed candidates will be required to complete their elective period, submit a full report and achieve a grade of ‘excellent’ against all criteria in their report to be eligible to be considered for the Awards.  The Awards will be made by the Award Panel to the two students who are judged to have made the greatest effort in both the elective and the subsequent report and/or improvement compared with their performance prior to the elective.

In the event that there are less than two candidates for the Awards, the Award Panel may at its discretion make an award to the strongest candidate from the long-list of candidates who completes an elective period, or may decide not to make the Awards at all.  In the event that three or more candidates are judged to be of equal merit the Award panel will make the Awards to the two candidates who are judged to have made the greatest progress since the completion of their elective.

The Awards will be presented at an event organised by the Faculty of Health.
