Successes: Srimathy Vijayan

Srimathy Vijayan

Although her work was limited by the rarity of vascular parkinsonism patients able and willing to participate in the study, the study design protocols were excellent and novel, and she has begun to publish work related to her background research.  She was able to present the main body of her work as a talk to the Royal Society For Medicine: "Use of 123I- FP-CIT SPECT (DaTSCAN) to predict levodopa responsiveness in vascular parkinsonism".

Srim has also had an article reviewing the merits of undertaking an MRes degree for doctors accepted by the BMJ and she is a regular contributor to the student BMJ and the student Lancet.

The Board of Examiners for the MRes felt that the ambition of undertaking a multi-centred trial, the exemplary nature of her dissertation and the consistently high scores that she achieved on the course made her an exceptional and outstanding student.

Peter Earl commented, “Clearly Srim has made the absolute most of the opportunities made available to her through the MBBS and MRes options at UEA.  She has worked exceptionally hard, has already established an excellent reputation amongst the medical community, and shows tremendous potential.  Her study into vascular parkinsonism will hopefully go some way to helping clinicians deal with this debilitating disorder.”
